A Message from the President

Colleagues,

The Association of Anesthesiology Program Administrators and Educators (AAPAE) Council and I would like to welcome you to our newly formed national organization. For over a decade, anesthesiology program administrators have tried to establish a professional organization, similar to those in which our peers in other specialties belong. In 2014, a small group of women revitalized previous efforts and launched a national needs assessment of program administrators. Your voice was loud and clear, and it was evident we needed a forum to share best practices, collaborate on initiatives and research, and develop a community of practice specific to our unique role in medical education. We developed a proposal for consideration by the SAAA Council to approve such an organization within SAAA. In the spring of 2015, the proposal was presented to the SAAA Council, and we were approved to organize under the SAAA umbrella for a 3-year trial period.

We have lofty but achievable goals for our first three years. First and foremost, we intend to develop and build a sense of community. We want this community to be one in which we feel comfortable talking to and collaborating with peers. We also aim to develop and launch a peer coaching program where tenured administrators share resources and best practices and give guidance to new professionals in our field. Lastly, we will host our first national meeting this November in conjunction with the SAAA annual meeting. The meeting will serve as a place where we can obtain information from and interact with leaders from the ACGME and ABA, showcase and highlight innovations within our programs, and most importantly, where we can learn and grow as professionals in a supportive and collaborative environment.

Please take a few minutes to look around our website, visit our resources page and learn more about the council members who are eager to make this new organization great. Come back often! Please let us know how we can make this site more useful to you.

This is an exciting time! We are looking forward working together to shape the future of our organization.

Sincerely,
Amy Miller Juve, Ed.D., M.Ed.
President, AAPAE 2015-2017
